ADDING NEW VARIABLE(S) TO A BRAINCUBE DATABASE

New variables have to be added to the customer's Braincube and in the database corresponding to the variables.

1 - Export LF and HF keys

The procedure is the same wether your database is brand new or you want to add variables to an existing database. In both cases, you will need to know the High and Low Frequency Keys (HF and LF) of each new variables you want to add. You can find them directly in MX Brain.

  • First go to the "Data" and "Base" tab in Braincube to list all existing databases.

  • Click the name of the base you want to add variables to, to get the names of the LF and HF table.

  • Go to MX Brain, select "Structures" in the upper left corner to display all tables.
Select your LF or HF table by clicking its name: it will appear below.

  • Select the "Variables" tab: you can now search for your new variables.
The LF or HF key appears in the "Variable name" column. If you need more than one, you can copy many at once using the copy button.

2 - Add variable(s)

You can either add variables one by one manually or use an Excel data properties file for many variables.
After selecting the right database into the client's Braincube, go to "Data" and "Variable".

1. Using an import file

You can upload a large number of new variables into a database at once following these 3 steps:

  • Recover the current variables list:

You can export an Excel file of the database's data properties as an example of the entry fields to fill for each variable by clicking on the "Export file" button.

Note:
• You can use variables filter to select a bunch of variables, like variables similar to those to import.
• In a brand new database, variables page is empty, so do the data properties file exported.

Save the Excel file and open it.

  • Add new variables:

Into the data properties file, add a new row per new variable.

Be careful to:
• Not to give an ID number to the new variables, as Braincube will automatically do it upon importation.
• Complete the "HIGH_FREQUENCY_KEY" and "LOW_FREQUENCY_KEY" fields exactly as given by MX Brain.
• Complete any other necessary fields with information provided by the client.
• /!\ Respect uppercase use for the "DATA_TYPE" and "CONTROL_TYPE" fields.

  • Import the new variables into the database:

You can delete unchanged variable rows to reduce uploading time, save your file and import it to Braincube. Click the Import Button to do it.

Let Braincube do the process, make sure there is no error message.

💡 This is also a quick way to change mass information for many variables at the same time; the only exception is "DATA_TYPE" has to be changed manually in Braincube.

2. Using "Create new variable" button

Click on the "Add variable" button

Complete "General characteristics" and "Importation settings" tab and save.

3 - (Re)import data

In a brand new database, you can now go back to your database configuration, proceed, and then export data from MX Brain.

In a previously existing database, the newly added variable should be visible in the Variables list, but the corresponding data has not been imported yet. It can be done manually by checking the new variables and clicking on the "Reimport column" button.

Note:
• It is not possible to reimport more than 100 columns at once, or IDMX.
